DIY Project Ideas for Autumn

With the cold and dreary weather, autumn is the perfect time to get stuck into a new DIY project.

Whether you’ll be creating indoor furniture or making crafts with your family, there’s a DIY project to suit anyone this autumn.

Indoor storage solutions you can never have too much storage space, especially if you have a family!

Declutter your living space this autumn by building new storage such as shelving, a bookcase, a sideboard, and more the possibilities are endless.

Bookcases Who doesn’t love a cosy autumn evening with a good book? Getting stuck into creating a bookcase to store your books and décor will lift your mood this autumn. Building a bookcase is most often preferable over buying one, especially if you’re looking to fit the storage solution into a uniquely shaped room with unusual dimensions.

Dressers/Sideboards Is your hallway in need of a revamp? Perhaps you need more storage and surface space in the dining room, mudroom/back door hallway, or living room. Creating a DIY dresser/sideboard could be the answer you need. As essentially a rectangular box with legs, this is a fairly straightforward DIY project when you have the right tools.

Shelving Building shelving is a great storage and display solution for those without the available floor space to fit a large storage unit. While your new shelves may offer less storage space than a bookcase, for example, you can get creative with shelving and create a unique piece that is bespoke to your home. Repurpose old wood furniture with treatment and paint to create beautiful new shelving that will brighten up your home.

If your repurposed wood needs sanding down, we recommend the small but mighty Worx D-Tail Sander or the Sandeck Cordless Multi-Sander for a comfortable, clean sanding experience.

Extra seating for entertaining don’t put the sander away just yet, you’ll need it to finish off a new DIY chair or bench for extra indoor seating. As gatherings and parties move from outdoors in summer to indoors in autumn, extra seating is always necessary!

Using recycled/repurposed wood, you can create sturdy seating for your family and guests. Better yet, hollow benches can double as seating and storage for twice the convenience.

Coat racks you’ll likely need a coat almost daily in the autumn months, so what better project to take on than creating a handy coat rack?

It’s up to you whether you create a wall mounted coat rack or show off your shaping skills with a tall standing coat rack.

Revitalise your current furniture If you don’t have any leftover wood to recycle, you can always re-finish, polish, and revitalise your existing furniture. Even furniture with metal elements can be cut or reshaped, using an angle grinder. The possibilities are endless when you have powerful, easy-to-use tools available.

Autumnal craft projects for those who love DIY projects with finer detail, smaller craft and detailing work is perfect for autumn. Whether it’s easy crafts with the kids or more intricate engraving work, there are plenty of crafts projects you could complete. Plus, the Worx MAKERX can handle it all crafting, fashion, design, artistry, technical repair, woodworking, and more.
